Alex pushes for new social infrastructure in the inner city, especially within redevelopment projects, arguing that new schools, public transport and open space are needed to respond to the growing population. He successfully campaigned for the Inner City High School which is now open. He defends parklands, the public domain, the harbour and your neighbourhood amenity from development impacts. He supports active and public transport over major road projects. Alex is a champion of a vibrant and diverse late night economy and the live music sector. He takes a leading role pushing for strata reform including short term letting and defects.

Sustainable Sydney

Protecting our urban and natural environment

Alex believes climate change, biodiversity loss and polluted air and water are the biggest threats to our future. He is a strong defender of the natural environment: he supports a transfer to 100 per cent clean green energy by 2030, opposes deforestation and pushes for the reservation of forests and waters including the Great Koala National Park and Sydney Marine Park. Alex wants a ban on single use plastics and stronger producer responsibility for waste.

DIVERSITY, INCLUSION AND SUPPORTING OUR COMMUNITIES

Compassion underpins all of Alex’s policies and work. Alex successfully decriminalised the state’s abortion laws, led the campaign to marriage equality and has committed to introduce laws for voluntary assisted dying. He supports First Nations campaigns for justice, truth telling and Makaratta. Alex has been a staunch advocate for people who are homeless, calling for massive expansions to inner city social housing and stronger tenants’ rights. He supports drug law reform that treats drug use as a health rather than criminal issue, supports rehabilitation over imprisonment and continues to push for LGBTQIA+ equality. Alex is the lone voice for animals in the Legislative Assembly.
