Racing Cruelty
Following the shocking ABC 7.30 exposé of poor regulation and awful cruelty in horse racing, I’ve asked the minister for changes in Racing NSW and the industry, including to enforce racing rules, reduce breeding and retired horse numbers, industry investment in animal welfare, racing events for older horses, more retraining and rehoming retired race horses, minimise injury and death in races, lifetime tracing race horses, accurate public information about the racing industry including deaths and injury and prevent cruel slaughter of race horses in abattoirs. Getting reform will need concerted community campaign given powerful interests and money involved.
