Raise the Age for Care

Raise the Age for Care

NSW is one of only two states in Australia that removes state care provisions when young people turn 18. Other states provide a transition period between 18 and 21 years including living at home with a parent or carer. NSW care leavers face an increased risk of homelessness and poor life outcomes compared to their peers.

I recently met with The Home Stretch campaign and heard the strong social and economic evidence of benefit for continuing care until 21 years. I have asked Minister Henskens to raise the current age for state care provision of children and young people to 21 years. > HERE.
