New pandemic strategies that rely on self-testing using RATs are only effective if RATs are readily available and affordable for everyone. I share the strong community view that tests should be free so there are no barriers to testing and reporting.

Commonwealth concession card holders today will now be eligible for 10 free RATs in a three-month period. They will be available through pharmacies however RATs are selling out as soon as they are in stock and will be difficult for concession holders to access. In response to my requests, the Department of Communities and Justice Deputy Secretary told me that free RAT kits will be distributed to homelessness services and social housing tenants.
