Remaking the Retirement Villages Regulation
While retirement villages provide an important housing option for independent living as one ages, some elderly residents are being trapped in costly and complex contracts with huge exit fees and unreasonable refurbishment costs if they need to move into care. The government is reviewing the regulations that support the laws that govern retirement villages. While the review is not aimed at addressing these problems, proposed new regulations do include making disclosures clearer and more accessible.
