RLC Employment Law Practice
(Community Recognition Statement, 15 February 2022, Legislative Assembly, NSW Parliament)
On behalf of the Sydney Electorate I commend the Redfern Legal Centre's employment law practice for the extensive support for workers during the pandemic.
The Redfern Legal Centre helps vulnerable workers who have been bullied, underpaid, discriminated against or treated unfairly to assert their rights and to achieve fair and just outcomes. Through COVID-19 the practice has supported groups disproportionally affected by pandemic restrictions such as migrant workers, international students and temporary visa holders already impacted by a lack of affordable housing, food security and adequate federal income support. Through education programs, advocacy and legal help, the practice has helped many people learn and understand their rights, resolve problems, recover wages and ensure fair treatment. In the Sydney electorate, I regularly refer people to the Redfern Legal Centre and I am thankful for the dedication of the staff and volunteers who continue to help disadvantaged and marginalised people in our community. I congratulate and thank the Redfern Legal Centre's employment law practice for their commitment to support and empower vulnerable workers especially throughout the pandemic.
