Ronni Kahn
(Community Recognition Notices, 17 November, Legislative Assembly, NSW Parliament)
On behalf of the Sydney electorate, I wish to put on record the outstanding contribution of Ronni Kahn AO, activist, advocate and social entrepreneur. Ronni is the founder and CEO of OzHarvest, the food rescue charity that is responsible for delivering over 210 million meals since its establishment in 2004. OzHarvest currently delivers over one million meals a month to over 400 charities. OzHarvest collects quality surplus food from a network of donors and gives them to people in need, reducing both hunger and food waste. Ronni expanded this work to include OzHarvest Market, the world's first free supermarket. Ronni is a spokesperson and a keynote speaker on food waste, inspiring and educating people on sustainability and innovation all over the world. For her service to the community, Ronni has been awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia and was recently given the Key to the City of Sydney. I thank Ronni for her enormous commitment to fighting food waste and hunger. She has contributed much to Sydney, to our environment and to vulnerable members of the community.
