Short Term Let Laws

Short Term Let Laws

Reforms that passed in 2018 have now commenced to enable owners corporations to pass bylaws by special resolution to ban short term letting in their building where the lot is not the host’s principal place of residence. The provisions stemmed from a massive campaign led by strata communities worried about their homes turning into quasi hotels and I encourage those buildings to make use of the new laws. The Owners Corporation Network has commissioned model bylaws members can buy; with the offer including membership to June 2020: HERE.

I continue to push for stronger planning provisions and enforcement safeguards in short term letting. While the health crisis has reduced impacts on buildings, we need to prepare now to prevent the loss of communities in the inner city and other areas of high tourist demand.

Let's work together to celebrate and protect our great city!
