My submission to the government’s review into short term renting called for stronger laws to prevent the wholesale conversion of homes into holiday accommodation. I’ve been raising concerns about the impact of unchecked short term renting on rental affordability for years but the unprecedented housing affordability crisis makes the need for reform more important than ever.

I supported proposals for a short term rental levy to raise revenue for homelessness services but the regulatory framework also needs to better reflect impacts. I called for tighter caps and an overhaul of the use of exempt development for turning homes into holiday rentals.
