Speed Zones
I’m pleased that Transport for NSW is reviewing speed limits in residential precincts, especially in the inner city where there are high levels of pedestrian activity.
Local roads in Kings Cross, Potts Point, Elizabeth Bay and Rushcutters Bay are now 40kph. Unfortunately the minister says there are no plans for 40kph in South Dowling Street north.
The evidence shows that a pedestrian hit by a vehicle at 40kph has 60 per cent chance of survival, compared to 10 per cent if the vehicles is travelling at 50kph. Thanks to those who’ve been pushing for reduced speeds to increase pedestrian safety and amenity. You can suggest roads that need to have speed limits reviewed: > HERE.
