St Paul’s College
I am deeply concerned about reports of serious bullying, deliberate humiliation and sexual violence that recently took place at Sydney University’s St Paul’s College.
I understand a number of students have been expelled or suspended for their participation in the incident and that an investigation is ongoing. While St Paul's warden Ed Loane has said the college would be reviewing its mandatory anti-bullying and harassment training provided to students, it remains that more needs to be done to improve the culture of university residential colleges.
Concerns raised directly with me by constituents, and media reports and the public response, clearly demonstrate that this type of behaviour is not acceptable and that more must be done to ensure that residential colleges are safe places for all students.
I will seek to work closely with the Greens on their proposed legislation in relation to colleges to ensure students have access to safe, affordable, accessible student housing.
