Statement on Independent Statutory review of Liquor Laws

The Independent Statutory review of reforms aimed at reducing alcohol-fueled violence provides the opportunity for an evidence based approach to improving the laws and ensuring we have a safe and civilised nightlife.

New South Wales has a history of constantly changing and unsustainable liquor laws that have been based on politics and industry influence. We must move beyond this to a multi-partisan and expert led approach if we are to have positive long term results.

The New Democracy Citizens Jury “City of Sydney—Safe and Vibrant Nightlife”, established with the support of the NSW Government, the City of Sydney and the Thomas Kelly Foundation, called for this review after 12 months. The NSW Parliament unanimously supported my motion on the jury's findings.

Let's work together to celebrate and protect our great city!
