Fair Trading is not sufficiently resourced or empowered to enforce strata law and dispute resolution processes often make justice difficult, expensive and too slow – if not, non-existent! I’ve heard about dysfunctional buildings where urgent maintenance works affecting health and safety never get done or where there are serious allegations of corruption and maladministration.

Tired of getting responses from the government recommending mediation, AGM agenda items and involved court action, I called on the government to introduce a commissioner for strata living. The commissioner would have oversight and audit powers to review serious issues, while addressing other challenges including defects, fire safety, proxy farming, short term letting, renewal and sustainability. My speech: HERE
