Sustainable Strata

In Parliament I supported new laws to reduce the voting threshold in strata schemes to approve the installation of solar panels and other ‚Äúsustainability infrastructure‚ÄĚ from 75 to 50 per cent of owners. Strata is the fastest growing form of housing and the change better reflects the vital role it must play in greening future civilisation. The voting threshold for raising a special levy remains unchanged.

A number of constituents have reported difficulties making their homes sustainable and technology advances in photovoltaics, batteries and virtual power plants will make solar panels in strata more viable. The bill included some minor changes to proxy voting and during debate, I called for additional reforms to prevent proxy farming which has persisted in some larger buildings. My speech: HERE
