The planned removal of the Alexandria Canal cycleway for the Sydney Gateway project is another disgraceful assault on sustainable and active transport. The cycleway is used heavily by commuters travelling to the city and the proposed replacement with a hilly indirect route will discourage many cyclists and potentially lead many to drive or use congested public transport. I’ve asked the minister to amend plans to retain the route. Bike riding is a solution to many modern challenges including climate change, obesity and traffic congestion and road planning must finally give it priority. My letter HERE
