Bowling Club Site

Monday 16 July 2018

In response to my questions in Parliament about the Paddington Bowling Club site, the Minister for Lands and Forestry says the lease was transferred to Quarry Street Pty Limited in November 2017 and the new lessee is complying with lease conditions. Adjacent residents have been raising concerns about retaining this Crown land as recreation space. My questions are HERE.

Absurd Stadium Proposal

Monday 9 July 2018

Help stop more damage to Moore Park, worse traffic and parking congestion and the loss of important architecture. I urge you to make a submission to the Department of Planning to oppose the absurd proposal to demolish and rebuild the Sydney Football Stadium before this Wednesday 11 July. My submission: HERE.

Information and submission link: HERE.

Expensive Electricity

Monday 9 July 2018

I’ve been calling for help with ever-increasing electricity costs, and in response to my latest questions in Parliament the Minister for Energy and Utilities referred to new budget measures that increase rebates by 20 per cent and a ‘One-Click Energy Switch’ where Service NSW officers will help people find better deals and change retailers to be piloted before going statewide. He also referred to schemes to replace old appliances and install LED lights: HERE. My questions: HERE.

Horses vs Parks

Monday 25 June 2018

I did not support new laws to give the wild horses in the snowy mountains heritage status. The brumbies are causing significant damage to alpine and subalpine regions, putting threatened species at risk, and their numbers are growing. Culling of introduced species can be very cruel but the answer is not to legislate making a particular species special. What we need is a ban on cruel culling like aerial shooting and 1080 poisoning with investment in humane population control measures so that introduced species don’t expand unchecked and we can protect declining biodiversity.

My speech: HERE.

Pipe Dreams

Monday 25 June 2018

Friday 29 June 7pm at the Verona Cinema Paddington you can catch the film ‘Pipe Dreams Fractured Lives’, with the farmer-filmmaker David Smith in a Q&A after the film to speak about what’s he’s learned about the ‘unconventional gas industry’: HERE.

Stadium Rebuild

Tuesday 19 June 2018

The concept plan for a new Sydney Football Stadium is on exhibition for public comment until 11 July. This includes demolishing the existing stadium to build a 45,000 seat building a few metres away. Another 26 trees will be removed and I am concerned about impacts on Moore Park and local traffic during events. Details HERE.

There is no justification for the massive waste of public funds and the government is rushing this process. Please make a submission to raise your concerns! Send me a copy so I’m aware of all the issues for my objection.

Destroying Forests

Tuesday 19 June 2018

Logging our State forests is unsustainable. It drives biodiversity loss, pollutes our waters and contributes to climate change. Alarmingly operations are intensifying and traditionally protected areas like old growth forests could be at risk from a drive to supply timber.

Stadium Secrecy

Tuesday 12 June 2018

Ahead of the expected exhibition of an Environmental Impact Statement, in Parliament I again asked the government to withdraw its plans to knock down and rebuild Allianz Stadium and reinvest funds in the parklands and community recreation. I called for release of the full business case, which has since happened following a Legislative Council motion and which shows a business case filled with poorly justified estimates and assumptions. Secrecy remains on other associated SCG plans including where the pool and gym will be relocated, what other buildings will be constructed and expansions into the Entertainment Quarter. Hearings as part of the Sydney Stadiums Strategy show that the rebuild process is being significantly rushed when viewed against comparable projects. My speech is HERE.

Tuesday 12 June 2018
