Forestry Legislation Amendment

(Bills - Second Reading Debate, 6 June 2018, Legislative Assembly, NSW Parliament)

Our native forests are vital to life: They support threatened species and ecosystems, clean air, fresh water and fertile land, and are vital carbon sinks. Australia has a shameful record of biodiversity loss, with the highest rates of species loss among developed countries, and New South Wales has the worst world extinction record for middle-size mammals. We have already lost more than one-third of our native vegetation and almost all of our rainforests. Logging of our native forests is driving rapid declines in forest species and destroying large old trees, tree hollows, bush, and water supplies in forested catchments that support species.

The Forestry Legislation Amendment Bill 2018 is business as usual and will continue the devastation of our native forests.

Kosciuszko Wild Horses

(Bills - Second Reading Debate, 5 June 2018, Legislative Assembly, NSW Parliament)

The Kosciuszko Wild Horse Heritage Bill 2018 will give the wild horses living in the Kosciuszko National Park cultural and heritage value. Recycling Fails

Tuesday 1 May 2018

China’s decision to stop taking our recycling could either become a waste disaster or be an opportunity to create a more sustainable waste management system. We will only achieve the latter with strong leadership and I’ve asked the Minister for the Environment to support mandatory product stewardship to reduce packaging and increase the recyclable content of products, and to use waste levy funds to build new plastic recycling plants. My questions are HERE.

Shore to Ship Power

Monday 23 April 2018

The minister’s response to my questions about shore to ship power for the Overseas Passenger Terminal claim no complaints to the Port Authority about air, noise or light pollution from ships berthed overnight at the OPT this cruise season. She says that berthed ships need generators for safety systems and essential services, but shore to ship power is not cost effective for reducing cruise ships air pollution for the OPT or Glebe Island/White Bay. My questions are HERE And HERE.
