Sexual Assault Housing Strategy

(Question Without Notice, 15 May 2018, Legislative Assembly, NSW Parliament)

My question is directed to the Minister for Family and Community Services, Minister for Social Housing, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. With significant numbers of survivors of institutional child sex abuse suffering mental illness, addiction, self-harm and other factors that can lead to homelessness, will the Minister ensure that survivors of institutional child sex abuse who need access to social housing will get priority housing?

Short Term Strata Rentals

Tuesday 27 February 2018

Lots of people have sent in signed petitions calling for apartment communities to make their own rules, and that includes being able to say no to short-term rentals. We need 10,000 signatures for the issue to come up for debate in Parliament. Parliament only accepts hard copy signed petitions.

Download the petition now so you can collect signatures – or call my office and we’ll post you a copy. Petition HERE.

Subtenancy Limbo

Monday 19 February 2018

Renters who haven’t signed a lease with a landlord but have an informal agreement with another tenant are not covered by tenancy laws and have few rights: they can be evicted without notice and refused bond for no reason, and can’t access the tribunal for recourse. The government has been reviewing tenancy laws and in Parliament I asked the Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation to introduce protections. While his response acknowledged a gap, he said the government would monitor the situation and complaints. My question is HERE.
