I’ve been calling for help with ever-increasing electricity costs, and in response to my latest questions in Parliament the Minister for Energy and Utilities referred to new budget measures that increase rebates by 20 per cent and a ‘One-Click Energy Switch’ where Service NSW officers will help people find better deals and change retailers to be piloted before going statewide. I welcome the Strike Force Parrabell report and commend NSW Police and Assistant Commissioner Tony Crandell for committing the resources to thoroughly review the violent deaths of 88 gay men or perceived to be gay between 1976 and 2000. I did not support new laws to give the wild horses in the snowy mountains heritage status. The brumbies are causing significant damage to alpine and subalpine regions, putting threatened species at risk, and their numbers are growing. Culling of introduced species can be very cruel but the answer is not to legislate making a particular species special. What we need is a ban on cruel culling like aerial shooting and 1080 poisoning with investment in humane population control measures so that introduced species don’t expand unchecked and we can protect declining biodiversity.

The Powerhouse Museum Alliance has published the material that the government was forced to table on the business case for demolishing the Powerhouse and moving some of the collection to western Sydney. You can read the proposals HERE.

No. 1 Registration of premises used for short-term rental accommodation

Page 3, Schedule 1, proposed section 54B. Insert after line 43:

(c) provide for the registration of residential premises used for the purposes of short-term rental accommodation arrangements and for the registration system to include details about when residential premises are used for those purposes, and

The amendment is a straightforward one. It ensures that the short-term rental code of conduct in the Fair Trading Amendment (Short-Term Rental Accommodation) Bill 2018 can include a mandatory registration system where all hosts add their premises to a register and provide data on the nights that they are there on a short-term basis
