Thank you to Sydney’s Ukrainian community for inviting me to attend the weekend gathering to show support for and solidarity with the people of Ukraine suffering death, destruction and displacement.

I know many people are showing support and expressing their distress about this cruel and senseless war. Lord Mayor Clover Moore’s motion of solidarity with Ukraine was supported, with the City of Sydney hosting a Ukraine Crisis Appeal Benefit in Town Hall. Woollahra Council also expressed support and Clr Louise Elsing has a notion of motion for Woollahra Council to advocate for more humanitarian visas to displaced Ukrainians and change the name of Fullerton Street to Ukraine Street, as are other cities around the world so that the Russian embassy will have Ukraine in their street address.
