Voluntary Assisted Dying

Voluntary Assisted Dying

The Voluntary Assisted Dying Board has released an interim report covering the first three months of the operation of my legislation. There were 500 initial requests for access in this period, with 131 people with a terminal illness fully accessing the scheme.

What the numbers do not tell you, is the dignity, control, and peace that accompanied these deaths. These are the stories that have been regularly shared with me by those going through the process and their loved ones.

I am grateful to NSW Health and the Voluntary Assisted Dying Board for so rigorously ensuring access and safeguards are managed so well.
