(Community Recognition Statement, 15 February 2018, Legislative Assembly, NSW Parliament)
I rise to congratulate the active and engaged community in Pyrmont and Ultimo for their inspiring and amazing fundraising efforts through Christmas in Pyrmont.
Late each year, Christmas in Pyrmont celebrates the festive season and helps build a stronger community with a daylong festival in the street and the Pyrmont Community Centre. The event raises funds for local charities and helps inform the community about their work and promotes local community groups and businesses who benefit the community.
The event includes children’s activities, entertainment, stalls, live music and games and is the last in a yearlong program of fundraising events.
In 2017, Christmas in Pyrmont collected and donated funds to Freedom Hub’s work to stop human trafficking, Pyrmont Cares’ furniture and whitegoods recycling to help people in need and Barnardos’ Aboriginal Early Years Service.
Christmas in Pyrmont is a fabulous representation of this community and I commend everyone who helps make it work so well.
