A federal bill introduced by Senator David Pocock seeks to impose a duty on decision makers to consider the impact on climate and the health and wellbeing of current and future generations.

A duty not to cause harm would be the paramount consideration. The next generation will inherit a humanitarian crisis caused by inaction on climate change and it is not much to ask for all decisions going forward to be underpinned by intergenerational fairness.
