Earth Hour

(Notice of Motion, Legislative Assembly, NSW Parliament)

Mr Alex Greenwich to move —

That this House:

  1. Notes that Earth Hour was held on 23 March and is a global event that started in Sydney.
  2. Commends the many businesses, residents, councils and governments which took part in the event.
  3. Notes the three per cent drop in energy use in Sydney's central business district during Earth Hour, equivalent to turning off half a million energy-saving light bulbs for an hour.
  4. Calls on the Government to support increased use of renewable energy through a strong legislated renewable energy target, a sustainable solar bonus scheme and removing restrictions on wind farms.
