On behalf of the Sydney electorate, I congratulate Fiona Campbell on receiving the Committee for Sydney's 2023 Unsung Hero Award. Fiona has been the City of Sydney's Cycling Strategy Manager for 15 years, leading work to enable and support bike riding in Sydney. Fiona's careful and strategic approach has ensured that there is sound research for both the technical foundation and the community support for riding bikes in a city that is often describe as bike-unfriendly. As a result, the City provides cycling courses, advice on safer routes to get to work, maps and education sessions combined with bike maintenance checks to engage with bike riders and encourage safer riding. Fiona has been one of the driving forces behind getting dedicated cycleways separated from fast-moving traffic and safer on-road routes to encourage cycling. This has been vital to our community getting the health, social and environmental benefits of active transport. I thank Fiona for her patient and tireless work over many years that has already made Sydney a more liveable city and will continue to make it easier and safer to get around on a bike.
