Getting repairs in your home fixed if you live in public housing has been a difficult confusing, slow and unresponsive process since the previous government split responsibility for tenants and property management. Repairs and maintenance were outsourced to private contractors who would cut costs and rarely fix underlying problems, leading to further disrepair and the need for more expensive works. I repeatedly called for reform of this approach and in my first meeting with the new minister this year asked that the repairs and maintenance return to the department.
