I welcome the government’s decision to combine Randwick Boys and Randwick Girls schools to form a new co-educational high school from 2025, with upgraded facilities and increased capacity. This will provide much needed public high school places for families in the eastern suburbs in line with the growing preference for co-ed campuses. Congratulations to the CLOSEast campaign group who called for this amalgamation as part of their work to improve public education access in the east.

It is not clear whether the changes will see the catchment extend further into Paddington where students must travel long distances to schools that are coming under increasing pressure from increased development in their catchment. We campaigned to get the Inner Sydney High School, and we need to start planning for a new high school now before there is no land left. I will continue to work with CLOSEast and federal MP Allegra Spender on an eastern suburbs public high school.
