Sydney MP Welcomes First NZ Same-Sex Weddings

The NSW Member of Sydney, Alex Greenwich, has welcomed today's start of same-sex marriages in New Zealand. Mr Greenwich was in New Zealand for the historic vote that legalised same-sex marriage, married his husband in Argentina last year, and his electorate has the highest number of same-sex couples in the country.

“Today New Zealand joins France, Canada, Argentina and a number of other countries in celebrating and recognising the love and commitment shared by same-sex couples ,” Mr Greenwich said.

“Many Aussie same-sex couples will now travel to New Zealand to get married, and it is shame that they must leave the country they love to marry the person they love".

Mr Greenwich remains hopeful Australia will soon join New Zealand in embracing marriage equality:

"More people than ever are of supportive of marriage equality, regardless of religious views or political persuasion. It is only a matter of time before reform happens at the State or Federal level".

Let's work together to celebrate and protect our great city!
