Western Distributor Expansion

Western Distributor Expansion

I have asked the roads minister to urgently withdraw planned expansions to the Western Distributor network, which I continue to oppose.

The plans add more lanes to the Pyrmont Bridge Road and Allen Street off-ramps to prevent traffic queuing, but the additional space will see more traffic funnelling through Pyrmont – as all road expansions do – eroding amenity and pedestrian and cyclist safety. Pyrmont will soon have a metro station and is unlikely to generate more traffic warranting these changes even with new development.

I’m worried about how the changes will impact outcomes of the Pyrmont Peninsula Place Strategy and the Pyrmont Ultimo Transport Plan. Last week, I brought City of Sydney staff to a meeting with roads and transport agency officers and the minister’s staff, and we urged them to reconsider these changes.

Let's work together to celebrate and protect our great city!
