2019 Election Policies

Safe and Affordable Housing

38,000 people in NSW are homeless, many living in the inner city. I’m calling for 5,000 new social housing properties to be built every year and a mandatory 15% social and affordable housing target in redevelopments. I oppose wholesale conversion of homes into holiday lets and unfair no-grounds evictions of renters.

Protecting the Environment

Climate is happening but NSW is failing to act. I champion 100% clean energy based on renewables and storage, greenhouse gas reduction targets, energy efficiency and solar incentives particularly for strata and rentals. I oppose deforestation and destructive coal mining, and support expanded national and marine parks. Reducing waste, plastics and pollution from production to disposal is a priority.

Parklands

I oppose the erosion of public green open space including by the SCG. I will again push to remove the SCG’s exemption from planning laws.

Equality

I support payroll tax incentives for employers to hire return to work parents, carers and older workers. I've secured anti-discrimination protections for people with a disability. I will continue to work to stop discrimination in schools and for long overdue rights and protections for the sex and gender diverse communities.

Supporting Strata

I support a special commission of inquiry into building defects. I will push for stronger laws that enable strata communities to control short term letting in their building including a mandatory registration system of hosts and properties.

Better Education:

More families are living in the inner city and our successful campaign got a new inner city high school and I will work for a new high school in the east. Mandatory childcare and education facilities are needed in new developments.

Social Justice and Health

I will work for voluntary assisted dying, removal of abortion from the crimes act, medicinal cannabis, a health approach to drug use including pill testing and an end to drug detection dogs and strip searches. I advocate scaling back gambling industries.

Animal welfare

I oppose cruel factory farming like battery hens and broiler chickens, and puppy farming and greyhound and horse racing, and the use of animals in circuses and rodeos.

Safe and Vibrant Nightlife

I will work to repeal the 1.30am lockout for well managed and live entertainment venues while retaining safety benefits through saturation zoning to stop areas becoming late night hotspots for violence and anti-social behaviour.

Protecting the Arts

We saved the National Art School from amalgamation and relocation. I continue my opposition to the closure of the Powerhouse and will campaign to maintain a cultural presence and stop overdevelopment of the site.

Better City Transport

I oppose the WestConnex and associated road expansions including the disgraceful Alexandria to Moore Park project. I support public transport over road projects and new bike lanes to fix the missing links. I advocate for companion animals on public transport.

Democracy

I will work to repeal laws that halved residents’ votes in council elections, a stronger ICAC government transparency, and a more balanced and representative parliament.
