Nurse Ratio Campaign, Planning White Paper, Sydney Heritage Fleet, @Vibewire, Welfare Rights Centre

Nurse_Ratio.pngI’m supporting the nurse ratio campaign, which aims to ensure patient safety and care by limiting the number of patients for whom each nurse is responsible. I’m concerned that the massive health budget cuts will impact on people needing health care. To find out how you can support the campaign go to http://www.morenurses.org

The Government’s planning review White Paper will change the rules for development across NSW, and threatens your ability to have a say about what happens in your community. Learn what it means at the Environment Defenders Office workshop on Tuesday 14 May. Details at www.edo.org.au/edonsw/site/events.php

Vibewire.pngThe Vibewire Innovation Lab was launched last Thursday, providing a co-working space for young change makers, and I was pleased to speak at the launch and encourage their innovation and creativity. Residents at Vibewire advocate for important reforms including animal welfare, public housing support, and food security. Further details at http://vibewire.org/

Sydney Heritage Fleet’s proposal at 3 Bank Street Pyrmont no longer includes industrial activities and I asked the Planning and Infrastructure Minister for consent conditions to prevent expanded ship restoration that could create noise and

pollution. I also asked for removal of onsite shipping containers, and better information on traffic and view impacts. The site was identified for passive recreation in the approved 2006 Bank Street Master Plan and many local residents want it dedicated to open space with passive boating.

Last Friday I spoke at the rally in support of the Welfare Rights Centre, which has supported vulnerable people in need for over 30 years. I’ve called on the Minister to restore the $400,000 funding cut that will destroy their services.

 Have a great week
