Broderick Review

Broderick Review

The Broderick review into bullying, harassment and sexual misconduct at the NSW Parliament is confronting and must lead to changes to make parliament a safe workplace. The review found one in five respondents experienced bullying or sexual harassment with serious sexual assault offences reported. The experience of women and LGBTIQA+ staff is harrowing; the parliament should set high standards, not be beyond the pale.

As the only LGBT person sitting in the Legislative Assembly, I believe a greater diversity would improve the culture and the major parties and parliament have a lot of work to do in this regard. I welcome commitments from political and Parliamentary leaders that they will take this matter seriously and implement reform. I thank everybody who participated in the review and for some who no doubt had to re-live their traumatic experiences. Because of their courage, we can move towards positive change.
