Cycling Support

Monday 19 February 2018

Cycling is clean and healthy and can reduce traffic and public transport congestion but this government has shown contempt to cyclists, with its biggest moves to massively increase penalties and remove one of the most used safe cycleways. In Parliament, I called on the government to follow other cities’ lead and make cycling a safe option, see HERE.

We need to provide safe cycle routes to the planned Cleveland Street high school, which are required under the light rail consent conditions. Safe cycling links are needed from the eastern suburbs to the CBD, including for bike riders using the planned upgraded Edgecliff bus and railway station. We must remove the footpath bans which force children as young as 12 to ride on the road with trucks and fast moving traffic.

The growth in bikeshare and food delivery apps is seeing more people ride bikes and we must make it safe. I asked the minister about accreditation of bikeshare operators to protect the public domain and riders: HERE. My questions on New South Head Road HERE; around the light rail route HERE and for Edgecliff HERE.

Let's work together to celebrate and protect our great city!
