Thousands of apartment owners across the state are dealing with the difficult task of fulfilling orders to replace flammable cladding and make their buildings safe. They face massive special levies with no guarantee that their homes will comply after costly and disruptive works because there is no clear guidance or agreement over the safety of replacement products. Owners tell me they have no support and feel abandoned by government.

The approach in New South Wales compares poorly to Victoria which provides grants and has established Cladding Safety Victoria to work with owners from start to finish. In Parliament I called on the government to provide leadership and support including financial support such as interest free loans as part of a wider disaster package to help apartment owners suffering hardship as a result of defects.
