Latest Barangaroo Modification
8 April 2015
The latest proposal for Barangaroo South (Modification 8) follows a history of modifications to the winning plan that promote private benefit at the expense of public outcomes. The private hotel would be relocated on Barangaroo South’s only waterfront public recreation space and be over 100 metres taller.
A residential tower’s height would also increase. Barangaroo South would become windswept and shaded, adjacent parks would lose harbour outlooks and parts of the year Sydney Observatory would lose views of important constellations like the Southern Cross.
Packer’s casino within the hotel – supposed to be for international high rollers only – will get 500 car spaces and on-street parking would be removed to cope with the expected traffic congestion.
My submission will argue that the hotel should be relocated within the built areas of Barangaroo South, with no additional gross floor area. I encourage you to make a submission. Information is available HERE.
