With the world’s biggest LGBTIQA+ festival WorldPride kicking off on Friday, I am using the opportunity to advance LGBTIQA+ human rights and equality in this state, starting with my bill to ban conversion practices.

Within one week, both leaders of the major parties responded to the bill with commitments to support a ban, sending a clear message that the LGBTIQA+ community is loved, supported and affirmed. The model in my bill is survivor led and focusses on education and bringing parties together to resolve matters, with sanctions only when an affected person has experienced harm and wants to pursue matters.

I will push for all sides of politics to adopt this model.
LGBTIQA+ people are not broken and do not need fixing and it is time sinister practices to change and suppress their true self was banned.
