Moore Park or Car Park

Moore Park or Car Park

Despite commitments in the government-approved Moore Park Master Plan 2040 to remove event parking on the grasslands, there is neither a concrete strategy on when or how cars will be removed nor a clear indication from government whether they will ever be removed. I share growing concern that there is no intention to realise this objective. Moore Park is not mentioned in the government’s “50-Year Vision” for open space in Sydney and it has been excluded from any new funding delivered to Sydney parklands. Alarmingly, I have heard that the football codes and SCG Trust got the government to agree to resume Moore Park car parking once events return to the precinct.

If event related car parking in Moore Park is reinstated after the pandemic, it will be difficult to remove it. Parkland defenders group Saving Moore Park is calling the community to action to demand the permanent end to car parking on Moore Park and its return to the community for much needed recreation. If you care about the parklands, I encourage you to get involved in the campaign. Information: HERE
