I presented to the Greater Sydney Commission on its review of planning controls for Ultimo, Pyrmont and Wentworth Park. The review has been initiated by the planning department’s opposition to Star Casino’s proposed hotel residential tower based on planning law breaches and a concerted media campaign by the casino to get the rules changed.  Pyrmont is one of Australia’s most densely populated regions and has remained a desirable place to live and work as a result of strategic planning to ensure the right scale and mix of social and affordable housing, as well as public space; it should not be subject to spot rezoning on steroids.
