The previous government committed to closing Wentworth Park racetrack and returning it to the community as public open green space when the lease ends in 2027. Unfortunately, the new government does not appear to be ready to fulfill this commitment, with ministers stating they may support the Greyhound Breeders, Owners and Trainers Association’s proposal to extend the lease. Lord Mayor Clover Moore’s latest Lord Mayoral Minute opposes an extension and reinforces the council’s masterplan for a consolidated Wentworth Park.   

The Animal Justice Party says that 70 dogs have been injured and one killed on this track this year already. I oppose this cruel industry that fuels problem gambling and support the community campaign to stop Wentworth Park racing from 2027 and return all the park to the community.
