Parts of the Commonwealth Religious Discrimination Bill override state laws and existing protections based on gender, sexuality, race, pregnancy and marital status. It limits large employers’ ability to make workplaces safe and inclusive. The bill takes a broad approach to religious belief and allows significant latitude to express vilifying comments towards people at the expense of a fair, secular society of diverse beliefs and backgrounds. I believe the law should protect everyone from discrimination, harassment and vilification.
