Shark Nets

Shark Nets

Shark nets at ocean beaches kill hundreds of threatened marine animals in New South Wales every year including turtles and dolphins. They don’t protect beachgoers but can give them a false sense of security – almost half the sharks caught in nets are on their way out of the beach and can be attracted to other marine life caught in nets. Despite expert advice against nets, the government has decided to continue using them for another summer.

I joined colleagues including from the Animal Justice Party, Liberals, Greens, Independents and Legalise Cannabis Party to condemn shark nets and call for expanded drone use and surveillance to make beaches safer.
