Street Events

Street Events

I’ve asked the transport minister to amend the Roads Act to make low impact road closures for community street events faster, easier and cheaper, after hearing from locals about the process for closing a local road for a street party.

Small community and non-commercial celebrations currently need to engage a licensed traffic management company to produce a Traffic Management Plan that is endorsed at the Local Traffic Committee (with a lead time of up to six weeks). They also need public liability insurance, a licensed traffic control company to manage the closure and erect barriers, approval from the local Police Command and pay application and road closure fees. Safety must be a priority, however I hope the process can be streamlined, particularly how important outdoor events have become as a result of the pandemic. My letter > HERE
