(Community Recognition Statement, Legislative Assembly, NSW Parliament)
I recognise the contribution to this Parliament and to the Sydney electorate of the former member for Sydney, Clover Moore. One year ago Clover delivered her valedictory speech to a packed public gallery of friends, family, supporters, colleagues and those that she has helped.
During her 24 years of working for the people of Sydney, Clover progressed important reforms relating to animal welfare, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) equality, including same-sex adoption and anti-vilification measures, strata reform, and small bars.
Clover continues to be a strong voice for action on climate change, protecting parks and public spaces, and making cities liveable and accessible for all. Fiercely independent over her 24 years in Parliament, Clover ensured that she worked for the people of Sydney and not for the Daily Telegraph. I am grateful to have received Clover’s endorsement to run for the seat of Sydney when she was forced to resign and I continue to enjoy the challenge and opportunity of building on her work for Sydney.
