Modifications to approved plans for the Western Harbour Tunnel no longer require dredging of the harbour and should reduce impacts at Glebe Island and sediment disturbance. Modification 2 would allow Tunnel Boring Machines instead of the approved Immersed Tube Tunnel (IMT). The White Bay/Glebe Island construction sites won’t be used to build the IMT units, but Glebe Island will be used to build the concrete segments that will fit together to construct the tunnel.
