I supported the Greens bill to allow MPs to attend parliament remotely in emergency situations.

COVID exposed that there is no backup plan to protect democracy when members cannot attend the chamber. We missed a number of weeks of parliament and while we made arrangements for virtual speeches, legislation was needed to allow virtual voting and for the house to sit without a quorum present.

The bill passed ensuring government scrutiny and the legislative process can continue in the future during extraordinary circumstances, which the pandemic has shown is needed so legislation can still be passed > HERE.
