Wildlife Loss

Wildlife Loss

I share community concern about shooting of native animals, particularly after so many species have had their habitat destroyed and are at risk of becoming endangered. When Parliament goes back, I will ask the government to cease native animal shooting and undertake a comprehensive assessment of the bushfires’ impact on affected species.

I opposed recreational hunting in national parks and submitted petitions to Parliament before the government overturned the policy. I also opposed the reintroduction of duck hunting and my first private member’s bill was to remove the pink-eared duck from the list of native birds that could be hunted. The bill exposed the hypocrisy in the claim that duck hunting was aimed at protecting crops, given the pink-eared duck doesn’t even eat crops!

Let's work together to celebrate and protect our great city!
